About the department
UOWD has a dedicated Careers and Alumni Relations Office that works with the support of the University to extend the opportunities for current student and graduates to engage with university life. The office promotes communication with and amongst alumni and supports the creation of networks and leadership groups to advance the interests of the UOWD student and graduate community.
The Career Advisor operates in a dynamic and student-cantered environment, requiring flexibility to meet the diverse needs of students and alumni. The role involves regular interaction with students, faculty, and employers, and may include occasional evening or weekend commitments to support events and workshops. The main purpose of the role is to provide individualized career advising and guidance to students and alumni, supporting their career development, job search strategies, and professional growth.
Roles and Responsibilities
Provide one-on-one career advising sessions to students and alumni, helping them with career planning, resume writing, interview preparation and job search strategies.
Assist in developing personalized career action plans that align with individual goals and aspirations.
Design and deliver career-related workshops and seminars on topics such as resume building, interview skills, networking, and career exploration.
Stay informed about industry trends and job market changes to provide up-to-date advice and information to students and alumni.
Develop resources such as career guides, industry reports, and job search tools to support students and alumni.
Coordinate employer engagement events, career fairs, and on-campus recruitment activities.
Maintain and update online career resources and tools available to students and alumni.
Maintain and update career advising and events data for reporting purposes.
Regularly report on career advising metrics and outcomes
Eligibility Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Career Counselling, Human Resources, or a related field.
Career advising certification is desirable.
Experience:
3 years of experience in career advising, counselling, or related fields.
Experience in developing and delivering career workshops and programs.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work with diverse student and alumni populations.
Proficiency in career advising tools and resources.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
Excellent organizational and event planning skills.
Compensation Benefits
