About the Role

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented Accountant to join the Finance team on a 6-month temporary contract. This role has been created to provide additional support during a period of significant regulatory change and strategic finance projects, including VAT reforms, Corporate Tax developments, internal VAT audits, and the implementation of E-Invoicing initiatives.

This is not a transactional accounting position. The successful candidate will act as a genuine working partner within the Finance team, taking ownership of the preparation and analysis of technical accounting outputs, enabling senior finance leaders to focus on oversight, compliance, and strategic delivery.

Key Responsibilities

You will support a wide range of financial accounting, reporting, audit, tax, payroll, and finance automation activities, including:

  • Preparing month-end close entries, reconciliations, revenue schedules, and adjustment journals for review.

  • Supporting year-end financial reporting and audit preparation activities.

  • Managing audit requests, supporting documentation, and draft responses to auditors.

  • Assisting with VAT and Corporate Tax reconciliations and supporting compliance activities.

  • Supporting payroll accounting and reconciliation processes.

  • Contributing to finance process improvement and automation initiatives, including Robotic Process Automation (RPA) workflows.

  • Maintaining finance process documentation and standard operating procedures.

  • Assisting with student account and accounts receivable matters requiring technical accounting support.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

We are looking for an accountant who combines strong technical capability with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

  • 3–5 years' experience in financial accounting, including month-end close, reconciliations, and audit support activities.

  • Working knowledge of VAT and tax compliance processes.

  • Strong Excel skills and experience using accounting systems. Experience with Oracle is advantageous.

  • Strong attention to detail and sound accounting fundamentals.

Desirable

  • Part-qualified or currently pursuing a professional accounting qualification (CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent).

  • Exposure to process automation, analytics, or Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools

Important Eligibility Requirement

This is a temporary 6-month appointment and does not include visa sponsorship. Candidates must already hold a valid UAE residency visa and be legally eligible to work in the UAE at the time of appointment.

Why Join UOWD?
  1. Gain exposure to significant finance transformation and regulatory projects.

  2. Work alongside experienced finance leaders in a professional university environment.

  3. Contribute to tax, audit, automation, and financial reporting initiatives that have a direct organisational impact.

  4. Opportunity to develop broad technical and operational finance experience.
