Inspire the Next Generation of Media Creators and Critics
The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Adjunct Tutor to support the delivery of Game Media Industries, an undergraduate subject within the Bachelor of Communication and Media (BCM) program.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in game studies, digital media, interactive media, game culture, esports, media industries, digital communities, or contemporary screen media who can help students critically analyse one of the world's fastest-growing creative industries.
Teaching Commitment

🕛 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM
📚 Two tutorial classes per week
About the Subject
Digital video games have emerged as one of the world's largest creative industries and most influential forms of media entertainment. This subject explores the historical development of games, contemporary gaming cultures, esports, live streaming, fandom communities, and the economic and cultural impact of game media.
Students critically examine game texts, paratexts, branding, merchandising, online communities, review cultures, and digital participation while developing analytical and creative media projects.
About the Role
The Adjunct Tutor will:
Facilitate engaging tutorial discussions and learning activities
Support students in analysing games, game cultures, and digital media ecosystems
Guide students in the development of media projects and critical analyses
Provide feedback on assessments and class activities
Encourage critical thinking, media literacy, and industry awareness
Support an inclusive and interactive learning environment
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
You are a design professional and educator with a strong grounding in visual communication design and a commitment to student‑centred studio teaching.
Essential requirements:
Master's degree in one of the following areas:
Media and Communication
Game Studies
Digital Media
Cultural Studies
Communication Studies
Interactive Media
Screen Media
Or a closely related discipline
✅ Demonstrated knowledge of:
Video game industries
Digital cultures and communities
Esports and streaming platforms
Game design and player cultures
Media analysis and research methods
✅ Strong communication and presentation skills
✅ Availability to teach on Thursdays from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Desirable
Previous university teaching or tutoring experience
Industry experience in gaming, media, communications, content creation, esports, or digital marketing
Research interests related to game media, fandom, digital culture, or participatory media
Experience supervising creative or media-based student projects
