About the School of Engineering

The School of Engineering at UOWD provides an academic environment in which engineering teaching, research and practical application come together. The School's Mechanical Engineering academic roles encompass undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, student research supervision, course coordination and engagement in research, including externally funded, interdisciplinary and practice-based activity.

The School is particularly interested in academics who can combine disciplinary knowledge with contemporary engineering practice and provide students with relevant, applied learning experiences. Industry experience or active industry collaboration is regarded positively within the Mechanical Engineering academic profile.

Shape the Future of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering

The University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) invites applications for two Lecturer positions in Mechanical Engineering within the School of Engineering.

We are looking for academics who combine strong engineering fundamentals with contemporary technical expertise and a genuine commitment to high-quality, applied engineering education.

The appointments will strengthen teaching across mechanical dynamics, materials, mechanical systems design, mechatronics and intelligent engineering systems, supporting students to develop the analytical, experimental and design capabilities required for contemporary engineering practice.

The broader Mechanical Engineering academic profile at UOWD combines teaching with research and includes undergraduate delivery, student research supervision and course coordination.

About the Roles

Position 1: Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering - Dynamics and Materials

This position will strengthen core Mechanical Engineering teaching in machine dynamics, reliability, materials and engineering design, with a particular contribution to foundational and intermediate-year engineering education.

The successful candidate will bring strong theoretical and applied knowledge and the ability to help students connect engineering principles with experimentation, materials selection, mechanical behaviour and design.

Key Teaching Areas

The teaching portfolio is expected to include:

  • MECH226 – Machine Dynamics

  • MECH474 – Reliability Engineering

  • ENGG103 – Materials in Design

  • MMMB203 – Engineering Practice and Experimental Methods

  • MMMB215 – Mechanical Engineering Design 1

We Are Particularly Interested in Expertise In

  • Machine dynamics and mechanical systems

  • Reliability and engineering failure analysis

  • Engineering materials and materials selection

  • Mechanical design

  • Experimental engineering methods

  • Engineering measurement and analysis

  • Applied mechanical engineering

This opportunity would particularly suit an academic who can make technically demanding engineering fundamentals accessible, applied and relevant to professional engineering practice.

Position 2: Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering - Mechatronic and Mechanical Systems Design

This position will strengthen teaching at the intersection of mechanical engineering, mechatronics, intelligent systems, automation and engineering design.

The successful candidate will contribute to practical and experimental engineering education and support the development of students' capability to design and evaluate increasingly intelligent mechanical and mechatronic systems.

Key Teaching Areas

The teaching portfolio is expected to include:

  • MMMB201 – Materials Selection for Mechanical Systems

  • MMMB203 – Engineering Practice and Experimental Methods

  • ENGG103 – Materials in Design

  • ECTE351 – Engineering Design and Management 3

We Are Particularly Interested in Expertise In

  • Mechatronic and mechanical systems design

  • Intelligent mechanical systems

  • Automation

  • AI applications relevant to engineering systems

  • Engineering design and systems integration

  • Experimental engineering

  • Materials selection for mechanical systems

  • Applied engineering design and project work

This position is especially attractive for an academic whose expertise crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries between mechanical design and contemporary mechatronic or intelligent engineering systems.

Qualifications and Experience

You are a Mechanical Engineering academic who is passionate about developing the next generation of engineers.

You combine sound engineering fundamentals with the ability to create engaging, applied and technically rigorous learning experiences. You are comfortable moving between engineering theory, design, experimentation and practical problem-solving and can communicate complex concepts clearly to students at different stages of their studies.

Depending on the position, your expertise will align primarily with either Dynamics and Materials or Mechatronic and Mechanical Systems Design.

Academic & Professional Profile

For the broader Mechanical Engineering academic profile, UOWD is seeking candidates with:

  • A PhD in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or an appropriately related discipline.

  • Demonstrated higher education teaching experience.

  • Research and/or relevant industry experience.

  • The ability to contribute effectively within a collaborative academic environment.

Research & Scholarly Contribution

Successful candidates will be expected to maintain an appropriate program of scholarly or research activity alongside their teaching contribution.

The School's Mechanical Engineering academic profile values:

  • Peer-reviewed research indexed in Scopus.

  • Competitive research grants.

  • Interdisciplinary research collaboration.

  • Professional and practice-based research.

Candidates should therefore demonstrate either an established research record or a credible trajectory appropriate to the academic level of appointment.

How to Apply

Candidates should clearly indicate in their application their preferred area:

Position 1: Dynamics and Materials

or

Position 2: Mechatronic and Mechanical Systems Design

Candidates whose expertise spans both areas are encouraged to indicate this and identify the subjects they are equipped to teach.

Applicants should submit:

  • A current academic CV.

  • A cover letter identifying the position/technical stream for which they are applying.

  • A summary of the Mechanical Engineering subjects they have previously taught.

  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness.

  • Details of research publications and current research activity.

  • Details of relevant industry experience, professional practice or industry collaborations.

If you are passionate about bringing contemporary Mechanical Engineering into the classroom and developing engineers who can combine strong fundamentals with practical design, experimentation and intelligent systems thinking, we encourage you to apply.

Note: you will be required to attach the following:
  1. Resume/CV
  2. Passport-size photograph
